MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Ben Hightower, a decorated 20-year Navy veteran and Ellicott City resident, will address the Montgomery County Republican Convention this Saturday, October 11th, to discuss the urgent need for new leadership and fresh perspectives in Maryland politics.
“I’m honored to speak with Montgomery County Republicans about the challenges facing our state,” said Hightower, who served six combat deployments as a Hospital Corpsman before retiring from the Pentagon. “After two decades of military service, I see a state in crisis—and the same career politicians offering the same failed solutions. Maryland families deserve better.”
Hightower, who chose Maryland as his retirement home after considering locations across the country, will share his concerns about the direction of the state and discuss priority issues that demand new leadership, including:
“After managing a $110 million budget at the Pentagon and leading teams in life-or-death situations, I know what real accountability looks like,” Hightower noted. “The establishment politicians in Annapolis have failed Maryland families. It’s time for new voices with proven leadership experience.”
The Ellicott City resident brings an extensive background in military service and policy work, including coordinating COVID-19 response efforts for over 50,000 personnel at the Pentagon Health Clinic and serving as a Legislative Fellow in the United States Senate. His experience spans from battlefield medicine to shaping healthcare policy at the highest levels of government.
Hightower’s address will focus on why Maryland needs leaders from outside the political establishment—those who understand service, sacrifice, and real-world problem-solving. As someone who has never run for office, he brings a perspective untainted by the partisan games and special interests that dominate Annapolis.
The Montgomery County Republican Convention will take place on Saturday, October 11th in Gaithersburg, MD. Hightower’s remarks are expected to center on his belief that Maryland needs new energy and leadership from those who have served their country and understand the real meaning of public service—not career politicians focused on their next election.
“I’ve answered my country’s call before,” Hightower said. “Now I’m looking at Maryland—at the families leaving our state, the businesses closing their doors, the parents worried about their children’s education—and I’m hearing another call to serve. The question isn’t whether we need change. The question is whether we have the courage to demand it.”
Currently working at Johns Hopkins Health Plans serving military families through TRICARE, Hightower holds an MBA in Business Administration and Healthcare and a degree in Healthcare Management. He lives in Ellicott City with his wife, son, and service dog.
