A Veteran's Promise to Serve Maryland

Maryland families are struggling with skyrocketing utility bills, increasing tax burdens, raising housing costs, an overwhelmed school system, and missed opportunities to protect farms and open spaces that define our communities.

The politicians in Annapolis have had their chance. It's time for new leadership from someone who understands service, sacrifice, and getting results.

When I retired from the Navy, I could have settled anywhere in the country. I chose Maryland — chose this community — because I believe in what this state can be. That wasn't a campaign decision. It was a life decision. And it means I have just as much at stake as you do.

Now I'm fighting to restore that promise for our community and the future of our next generation.

Ben Hightower's Priorities for District 9

I didn't spend 20 years defending our country to watch Maryland fail its citizens. These aren't just campaign talking points—these are the real issues I hear from neighbors in Howard and Montgomery Counties every day.

As your State Senator, I'll bring the same discipline I learned in uniform: listen to the problem, build a real solution, and follow through. No excuses, no delays. Here's where I'll focus my fight for District 9:
  • Cost of Living and State Tax Relief — Maryland families are paying too much. I'll reduce our reliance on imported power, create real property tax relief from hidden assessments, and grow business and farming opportunities right here in District 9.
  • Strengthen Schools and Support Teachers — Our kids and teachers deserve better. I'll fight to improve student outcomes, give parents a stronger voice, and expand career pathways for the educators who show up every day.
  • Public Safety and Mental Health — Safe communities require both. I'll back our law enforcement and first responders while addressing the root causes of crime and expanding access to mental health resources for families who need them.

Ben supports increasing teacher pay, increasing vocational training programs, and keeping politics out of classrooms.

LOWER THE COST OF LIVING IN MARYLAND

Ben will champion tax relief policies, efforts to expand workforce housing, and cut red tape driving up costs.

SUPPORT FIRST RESPONDERS & VETERANS

Ben will increase PTSD/mental health funding and support property tax relief for those who serve.

SMALL BUSINESS GROWTH

Ben will stand up to the Governor to cut regulations, expand access to grants/loans, and strengthen chamber partnerships.

IMPROVE ROAD SAFETY

Ben supports funding road expansion, the improvement of safety measures at key intersections, and smart development planning.

FUND CRITICAL MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTION PREVENTION PROGRAMS

Ben will work to support community recovery programs and expand counseling for veterans/first responders.

PROTECT MARYLAND'S AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE

Ben supports Agricultural Preservation and will support Maryland farmers and our environment, including the Chesapeake Bay.
